Nooks

Nooks is an independent children’s bookshop & gallery located on Gallery Row in Lancaster, PA. We specialize in a curated selection of illustrated picture books and toys for children, as well as fiction and nonfiction for adults.

Everything we carry is special, unique & has a story. We have a deep love for classic children's literature, literary fiction, and illustrated classics.

Nooks also features a wide range of home goods, art, and toys focused on storytelling, imaginative play, & understanding the world around us.

We built this shop to be part of our community

  • We started as a children's bookstore.

    Emma O'Brien started Nooks as a children's bookstore in 2021 in a 200 sq foot hole in the wall in Lancaster, PA.

  • Her goal was inspiring the 'inner child' within everyone.

    We continue striving to inspire imagination, stir up curiosity, and foster community, all centered around a love for books.

  • Shawn and Maile Smucker took over the space in May, 2024.

    Emma moved the store to a much larger space on Gallery Row in October 2023. In May, 2024, Shawn and Maile acquired the store, continuing the vision.
